I stayed one night and woke up with bed bug bites. We checked the mattress and it was obviously damaged from the bugs. I told the owner and she said u201cnot againu201d. Apparently one of the rooms got fumigated back in July but with bed bugs the whole property would have to be fumigated, hence why I got bed bugs & had to get all stuff washed. Other than that the rooms were very small, bunk beds with 3 stories were very wobbly. Tiny showers and most of the toilet doors didnu2019t lock. The owner was nice enough.
My friend and I stayed at this hostel for three nights and very unfortunately had to deal with the issue of bed bugs there. Surely bed bugs can occur in any accommodation with a lot of different people but we were really disappointed with the way this problem was handled there. Already the first night we told our host about bugs in one of our beds and they just moved me to another bed in the same room. Then the last night we entered the room later at night and saw several bugs running around on our mattresses and also on other peopleu2019s mattresses. We told the host immediately and were moved to the only other available room which also seemed to be infested. The next day they finally took care of the room with professionals but in our opinion their actions came far too late and we are sure they have known about this problem from other guests before.
They also did not compensate for the costs we had with washing and dry cleaning all of our clothes and backpacks. They only refunded us one night. Additionally to that the room smelled really funky like gasoline and it was super cramped and there was literally no place to put your backpack.
On the good hand I can say that the people in the hostel were really nice and social, the staff was otherwise helpful, the other facilities like kitchen and bathroom clean and the breakfast was good.
Marlene and Claudia are precious and made sure I felt like home from the get go by personally introducing me to everyone in the place and showing me around. I tip my hat to Marlene for remembering all the names of the guests. Coliving is not just in the name and everyone at the place in some way contributed to a home like feeling. The location is in a calm residential area but still very close to the metro and laureles which has plenty of bars, restaurants, yogastudios, a public swimming pool..
I only stayed for one night, but really didnu2019t enjoy my time here. Yes, the owner is kind, but that didnu2019t make up for the rest. Dorms are TINY, everyone is pretty much on top of each other and no room for your bags. Triple levels bunks were sketchy and super wobbly - could feel every movement. People were partying super late on a Monday and you can hear everything perfectly from the rooms. Bathrooms werenu2019t maintained well. Overall this place did not live up to the reviews or pictures.
Don't get me wrong, the physical place is nice in a great area, but I could live in the woods and be happy with Claudia and Marlene as my hosts. I got mugged (far away from the neighborhood, hiking alone, don't do that) and Claudia insisted I take her phone to the city center to try to find police and my stolen phone. The hosts get to know each individual guest and you feel more like you're a guest in their home than a hostel. The breakfasts are flawless and punctual. I will be back one day!
